National Library Week – Spring Valley Public Library

Find Your Joy during National Library Week, April 19–25
National Library Week, April 19–25, is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together,
spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. By offering books and digital resources, movies and
games, creative programming and gathering spaces, libraries are essential to thriving communities. First
celebrated in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library

Association and libraries of all types across the country each April.
Our Spring Valley Public Library staff and the Friends of the Spring Valley Public Library volunteers invite
everyone to join the celebration! Whether you’re a longtime patron, a new neighbor, or haven’t visited
in a while, now is the perfect time to explore all the library has to offer.
Whatever brings you joy, the library has something for everyone. Libraries serve as hubs for learning,
creativity, and connection, helping people of all ages explore new ideas and opportunities.

 Monday, April 20, is “Right to Read Day” and the Friends are providing donuts and a hot
beverage bar for patrons to enjoy as they browse our collections and explore what we have to
offer. Make sure to stop by our “New Book Shelf” to pick out your next great read.

 Tuesday, April 21, is “National Library Worker Day.” Stop by, grab a hot beverage and visit with
the library staff. Make sure to thank them for creating a welcoming and supportive gathering
space. Library Director Melissa Vander Plas and Library Assistants Jeanette Ramaker, Jenni
Lovejoy and Cindy Stinson work hard to make sure patrons have the resources they need.

 Wednesday, April 22, is “National Library Outreach Day,” and the Friends are once again offering
a sweet treat to go along with our hot beverage bar. The Friends of the Spring Valley Public
Libraries are essential partners in our outreach efforts, representing the library at Wednesdays on
Broadway, community celebrations and fundraising events that support programming and
special collection purchases.

 Thursday, April 23, is “Take Action for Libraries Day.” This year, as the right to read is under
attack, please consider contacting your local, state and federal officials and urge them to protect
the freedom to read and oppose legislative attempts to ban books.

The Spring Valley Public Library is open Mondays from 10 am to 6 pm; Tuesdays, Wednesdays
and Thursdays from 12 noon to 7 pm; Fridays from 10 am to 5 pm; and Saturdays from 10 am to
2 pm.
