Winter Carnival – St John’s in Wykoff
St. Johns Lutheran Church & School hosts annual carnival as part of National Lutheran Schools Week.
WYKOFF, Minn., Jan. 11, 2023 — St. Johns Lutheran Church and School invites the community to its annual Winter Carnival on Saturday Jan. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Wykoff Commons in Wykoff. The youth-oriented event will offer fun, games and activities, featuring multiple inflatable bouncy units and a balloon artist. St. Johns is hosting this event as part of National Lutheran Schools Week (NLSW), which celebrates the Lutheran schools within the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS).
The cost of admission is $10, which includes a wristband plus 10 tickets. The wristband covers the main attractions: bounce houses, bells of strength, hole-in-one mini golf and a dance pad. Additional $1 tickets will be available for purchase and allow guests to enjoy other activities, including an igloo, duck pond, lollipop pull, plinko drop board, pretend ice pond fishing, face painting, balloons, the cupcake walk, and the jail.
A concession stand will offer snacks, beverages and light fare. Weather permitting, guests are also encouraged to bring ice skates to use at the outdoor ice rink at the Commons. It is important to note that children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult at this event.
As St. Johns looked to highlight Lutheran education within Fillmore County, and nationally, it initiated its first Winter Carnival in 2022 to coincide with NLSW. According to Principal Mickey Angerman, “Teachers and students look forward to NLSW every year since it’s a fun combo of spirit days, service-learning experiences, community projects and other creative activities—January is a great time for a little excitement!”
She points out that the carnival fits right into the mix and “gives St. Johns the opportunity to invite the public to join us in giving thanks for the gift of Lutheran schools to students, families and communities.” Notably, LCMS congregations operate the largest Protestant parochial school system in the country.
St. Johns looks forward to a great turnout and thanks Thrivent, which is generously supporting this event, as well as the Wykoff Commons for its continued support of St. Johns’ activities. The Wykoff Commons is located at 201 W. Bartlett St. in Wykoff. Event details will be posted on Facebook www.facebook.com/StJohnsWykoff and additional information can be obtained by calling the school office (507) 352-4671, or emailing school@stjohns-wykoff.com.
